Author Guest: L. Marie Adeline on What makes S.E.C.R.E.T. different
Today on the site we’d like to extend a warm welcome to S.E.C.R.E.T. author L. Marie Adeline. We reviewed S.E.C.R.E.T. here last spring and just read and reviewed book 2 S.E.C.R.E.T. Shared last week here. For those of you who haven’t read her series, it’s a different kind of romance that endeavors to look at the bigger picture of women’s sexual fulfillment and self esteem in addition to offering up a very smexy story of empowerment through indulging in one’s fantasies.
It’s not your every day romance that’s for sure. So the author is here to discuss what sets her best selling trilogy apart from the rest.
What makes S.E.C.R.E.T. different?
by L. Marie Adeline
On the surface, S.E.C.R.E.T., a sexy, erotic romp, set in New Orleans, is about a group of mysterious women who grant Cassie Robichaud, our lucky candidate, her most desired sexual fantasies. The fantasies are divided into nine steps, with the sex acts increasing in sexual and/or emotional intensity. The group takes care of everything, the time, place, and yes, especially the male participants. Cassie just has to show up and “accept the step”.
I’d say the S.E.C.R.E.T. trilogy is firmly rooted in the tradition of contemporary erotic romance but with a dash of the fantastical. The heart and soul of the trilogy is the relationship between Will and Cassie, star-crossed lovers who’ve been friends for so long they can barely see how perfect they are for each other.
Book one opens with Cassie Robichaud accepting the offer of nine fantasies to jar her out of her long-standing sexual rut. As she experiences each level of ecstasy, her increasing sexual confidence has a potent effect on the rest of her life, including on her ability to fall in love with Will, finally and for real, as the fully realized sexual woman she really wants to be. Although, as our lovers find out—there are obstacles.
So yes, sex is important, and as Cassie grows in confidence, the book heats up. But love eludes her, or rather, her relationship with Will, the love of her life, happens in fits and starts. And it can’t gel until she gets to a place where she’s really ready to give and receive love and pleasure in equal measure. Will can only teach her so much, the rest is up to her.
Why did I do it this way?
I want to demonstrate to women that while love and sexual ecstasy can be mutually exclusive, having both is within their power as well. But that’s only achievable if you are a whole person. I also what to show that this kind of thing can happen to regular people, not just to young hot billionaires and impossibly beautiful women. Café owners, waitresses, lounge singers, hairdressers, small business owners, they can also find love and passion if they take risks and stay true to themselves. I think that’s the thing that sets my books apart the most, and why they really seem to resonate.
While book one follows Cassie through her sexual steps, book two, S.E.C.R.E.T. Shared peels back the curtain more on how men are recruited, what’s in it for them, and why some men are better candidates for sex rather than love. There’s also a new character, Dauphine Mason. She’s not as retiring and shy as Cassie was, but she’s been burned badly by love. Great sex is a good way for her to also become unstuck, but when she stumbles into love in a completely surprising way, she has to decide if she’s ready to take the leap. And besides another new character in book three, S.E.C.R.E.T. Revealed, we’ll also find out how sex fantasies are actually orchestrated, and how the group does it undetected.
Will and Cassie will also overcome their final obstacle which is essentially letting each other go, in order to be together. But as Cassie is pulled deeper and deeper into the sexy world of S.E.C.R.E.T., will true love with Will elude her, or will he be waiting for her at the end of all her adventures? I’m betting on the latter.
Many thanks to Sullivan and Assoc. LLC and L. Marie Adeline.
